Oops — I woke up with a blood sugar reading of 39! Not a great set up for my morning workout!
Despite this slightly alarming news, I loved getting the real time feedback so I could make an Anjali-centered plan for myself.
Let me set the scene:
I woke up with a plan to do a 45min high-intensity interval training workout, which I often do *before* eating anything. But, given this reading I HACKED by–
- Had a snack
- Weight training without the Intervals
All because I had this extra piece of data keeping me on the straight and narrow.
I have a pretty strong tendency to ‘push forward’ (raise your hand if you feel me!)… So my instinct (before the reading) when I woke up tired was classic me “eh, it’s been a stressful week…I didn’t sleep great…NBG!”
BUT, pushing through my *fasting* high intensity workout would have resulted in ZERO (or maybe NEGATIVE) benefits. I would have “made it” but I would have also likely triggered STRESS chemistry in my body that would be COUNTERPRODUCTIVE to my goals.
We ordinarily think about checking blood glucose for elevated levels — but, LOW LEVELS are just as important to find.
I can’t wait to get my continuous glucose monitor from Levels to literally “Level Up” this hack!
Bonus points for those who can guess what other symptoms I should have experienced in the morning given this blood sugar level!
