Medical Acupunture at DCIM
We’re excited to share that DCIM now offers Medical Acupuncture with Dr. Kavita Patel, MD, and it’s available to all current DCIM patients, regardless of which primary physician provides your care at DCIM.
What is Medical Acupuncture?
Medical Acupuncture is a modern, evidence-based form of acupuncture performed exclusively by a board-certified physician at DCIM, Dr. Patel. Incorporating the traditional framework of meridians and qi, Dr. Patel also draws on her training in anatomy, physiology, and neuroscience to target areas that reduce inflammation, ease pain, and support the body’s natural healing response. Many sessions also use gentle, low-voltage electrical stimulation through the needles, which is painless and can amplify the effect.
What can it help with?
Medical Acupuncture has a broad clinical reach. Patients commonly seek it out for:
- Hormonal and reproductive health, including irregular cycles, menopausal hot flashes, and fertility support
- Pain and musculoskeletal issues, such as back pain, migraines, and joint pain
- Digestive concerns, including bloating and IBS
- Stress, anxiety, and sleep
- Immune support, allergies, and skin conditions like eczema
About Dr. Patel
Dr. Patel is board-certified in Family Medicine and trained in Medical Acupuncture through the Helms Medical Institute, one of the most rigorous physician acupuncture training programs in the country. She also brings training from the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and the Institute for Functional Medicine, along with over a decade of clinical experience. Because she practices as an Integrative and Functional Medicine physician at DCIM, she can incorporate acupuncture into your broader, root-cause treatment plan.
