The Three Most Important Food Questions
Ready for it??
1. Are you getting a variety of different foods?
2. Do you “eat the rainbow” from organic whole foods daily (or close to it)?
3. Are you paying attention to how you *FEEL* with the food you eat?
I love to think about all the details of what I’m eating, and certainly obsess about how to improve the template of foods amongst patients that are seeking out improved health. But, if you want to boil it down to some key components, they can be covered with these 3 questions.
Do you eat the same thing every day? Our bodies, just like our soil and microbiome, need diversity! If you’re an “eat the same lunch” everyday type of friend — see if you can stretch yourself out of that!
Think about touching every color of the rainbow with your consumption (and no, fruit loops dont count!). This practice will allow you to receive all the phytonutrients you need. Use fruits and vegetables to get here.
And, lastly…..one step beyond is to examine how food feels in your body. Pasture raised eggs may be an amazing superfood — but, if you immediately feel joint pain after eating them…it might make you take a pause. Elimination diets can be a fantastic way to uncover foods that are not serving you.
