DCIM Q&A and Stress Reduction on 4/23/2020
Below, I’ve shared the content of one of the live DCIM Q& A and Stress Reduction sessions from April 23, 2020. My intention with these sessions was to offer a safe haven from the hailstorm of news and challenges that we are facing in our daily lives as a result of the coronavirus. What follows is an example of our session broken into 7 parts, including a guided meditation at the end.
Welcome and General Info
Thank you so much for joining us last Thursday! I’ll be posting this session in seven parts. This is Part I, where I introduce myself and explain what to expect from the session.
Remember, we have our final session this Thursday at 9pm EST. If you want to join us, click on my profile for a link to the live zoom session!
Bone Health and Supplements
A participant submitted a question regarding bone health and supplementation. I discuss Vitamin D, K2, and Magnesium.
Meditation and Coronavirus
I discuss the benefits of meditation generally and specifically with respect to coronavirus, in response to a participant question.
Disclaimer (and shout out): My dad and dad-in-law, who appear in the segment, consented to my posting their image!
Respiration, Oxygen, Coronavirus
I discuss the recent NYTimes article that explores the connection between respiration, oxygenation, and coronavirus outcomes. Can paying closer attention to oxygenation levels early on lead to better outcomes personally and from a public health perspective?
A Reading from Peace is Every Step
To set us up for our guided meditation, I read an excerpt reading from Thich Nhat Hanh’s “Peace Is Every Step” about “Transforming Feelings”
RAIN, Mindfulness, and Meditation
Before launching into our focusing session, I discuss how to use the R.A.I.N. acronym to help you develop your meditation practice.
Guided Focusing and Meditation
I explain and demonstrate a focusing exercise for us to practice together, and then guide us through a meditation.
