Coconut: An Antiviral?

Short answer: YES, and even more!

Monolaurin is a fatty acid ester and is naturally occurring in coconut oil and human milk. It is a gentle but effective way to support immune enhancing needs, and there are studies that show its efficacy against candida, rhinoviruses, and cytomegaloviruses.

Clinically, it is often used against the common cold, influenza, Herpes viruses (Zoster or Epstein Barr), and Chronic fatigue syndrome. It is thought to increase T-cell signaling and proliferation to increase immune system stimulation.

For those of us who love all things coconut (me!)…it’s just one more notch on the positive side!
